Design

The Design Process

We prefer to start the process by first fully understanding and identify the goals/ needs of the client and who the project is to be catered for. We ask ourselves what its overall use is considered to be and we visit the site/photocatalog and perform basic due diligence in terms of any environmental and or zoning constraints that may affect the design, timeline or budget.

Two

preliminary

concepts

We seek to provide at least two concepts of contrasting forms that reflect the expressed design elements and budget and one without these constraints to demonstrate site potential and creative design solutions. The first concepts are created using these ideals to form a contextual framework in which to begin the design.

The designs themselves take shape in a purposeful yet creative manner by using site constraints and opportunities previously identified while picking up most importantly on architectural and circulation ques of the existing site. Also spatial dimensions, hierarchy, overall intended circulation and other design philosophies are key in these early stages.

integrated CONCEPT/ SPATIAL EXPLORATION

At this stage we begin to explore three dimensionally to get a feel for the spatial qualities and the considered materials (hardscape/vegetative). This is an important stage as we are always looking to introduce innovative materials as to not overlook the countless new products being offered and models tend to work best in relating the proposed design.

design Development/ construction drawings

Once the concept reaches this point, it is time to take the next step in refining the design both to meet budget/client preference. We do our best in approaching the project in a comprehensive manner as to not create unnecessary design elements/construction costs and provide the desired design through phasing if necessary as the best landscapes often need time to be realized. It is an alternative that often allows the spatial framework to remain intact through the final design stages: budget refining, timeline, finalized plans and construction.
